When it comes to drugs, most of my discoveries were made while I was a student. I smoked my first cigarette in secondary school, without ever quitting since, and my first joint in high school. In college, I tried coke, ecstasy and stuff. A history that, although not enviable, had left me with the impression that I had already seen it all.
Last weekend, I spent the evening in a Haussmann apartment full of tortured graphic designers, models in need of contracts, community managers who dream of being writers… A Saturday like hundreds of others every week in Paris.
After three cherry beers — no laughing —, I felt the urgent need to use the bathroom… which was already occupied. I was waiting impatiently in front of the door, when a 50.000-followers photographer / AD approached me. “You look tense! I got Xanax, if you want.” At first thinking it was a joke, I quickly understood he was very serious. After a brief conversation (and a life-saving stop by the bathroom), I realized he had a whole cabinet in his bag, just to get high.
Intrigued, I asked if I could ask him a few questions. Unable to resist a joke about my Claire Chazal side (the French Diane Sawyer), he accepted… (Note to myself: an interview is easier to negotiate with a person on tranquilizers.)
What medications do you take?
It’s funny, “medication”. It sounds so serious put that way. But to answer you, Xanax, Prozac and Ritalin.
Were they prescribed to you?
Not at all. No doctor would give them to me — I’m not depressed or hyperactive. It’s just about tripping.
How do you get them?
I always find someone around me to sell me some. I got a narcoleptic buddy giving me Ritalin. This thing is awesome, you take two and you’re gone till the next day. Same for Xanax or Prozac: we all know a person on treatment if we look hard.
Have you ever bought through the Internet?
Never. You never know what’s in there, I don’t want to die from an overdose of fake Prozac.
Do you use “conventional” drugs?
I used to, but not since I switched to pills last year. You know that they were made in real labs, they’re safe. After that, it’s up to you to make the right dosage.
Yes, but they are not good for your health either…
Sure… (laughs). But I remain convinced that there is less risk in swallowing a few pills with a beer than to carburize with coke.
There is also a big budget difference. At 5 or 10 € a pill, you can party up all night for 30 €, alcohol included.
Do you ever take drugs outside of parties?
Xanax, yes. Without alcohol, but with a small joint. Especially after a long day.
What do you do then?
I usually just listen to music, just lying in bed. I hang out on Netflix sometimes, too.
Your ideal playlist in this situation?
We should call it the pil-list! (laughs). I listen to a lot of rap, but I do it h24. A$AP, 2 Chainz, G-Eazy, Lil Pump, Lil Uzi Vert and lots of other guys who have “Lil” in their nickname. •
