#30 — 3.0 Streetwear

I get so bored of that term “streetwear”. You wear clothes in the street, so everything’s streetwear. You can wear a couture gown down the street and that turns it into streetwear…

When Kim Jones takes over as head of the Dior Homme studio, since renamed Dior Men, he speaks quite harshly about the aesthetic that made him famous (source HighSnobiety, editor’s note).

At first an underground culture, it has become the fashion obsession of recent years. From fast fashion to fashion weeks, all brands have given in to sneaker mania, pinned photos of the Bronx and Los Angeles’ skate scene on their mood boards, or turned to MTV’s golden age to find inspiration… until they reached a point of no return? While the FW19 fashion show cycle has just ended, whose main trend is the revival of the suit, some are already talking about the death of the streetwear…

Yet, can we really bury the style of the decade? What is the future ahead of it? Is the revenge of elegance definitive? How to reinterpret codes that are omnipresent today? Who are the labels applying to it? Which pieces should we adopt for a look both urban and original?
