From Prada to Zara: the style of podiums at low prices

26 July 2018 | Posted by Zackary

Every day, the Instagram account @dietprada lists the inspirations a little too direct — not to say plagiarism — between the different Houses and major brands. From clothes to advertising campaigns, absolutely nothing escapes the eye of this couture Big Brother.

However, copying is not the prerogative of high-end labels. While fast-fashion retailers release new collections almost every day, it is often on the runway side that they come for ideas. Moreover, at a time when luxury has never been so powerful among young people, they are making sure to be in the trend at the same time…

Broke friends — or cheapskates — this selection is for you!

By launching his brand VETEMENTS, Demna Gvasalia imposes his “aesthetic of the ugly” in the process. From the bottom of an old thrift store or an abandoned attic, he pulls out the long flowered dress — Laura-Ingalls-under-MDMA style. Everywhere since, ASOS is obviously there. With all the Italian flamboyance, Versace is known for its use of prints. At the top is the famous Barocco one, with golden motifs that have been used on the House’s clothing for over 20 years. Now as identifiable as the Medusa, ASOS is largely influenced by the Milanese wave. (Left: Versace; right: ASOS)

Beloved child of the Parisian fashion weeks, Jacquemus is particularly known for his clean, perfectly cut pieces — that, and his taste for Marseilles boys. Following the loose-fitting trend, he proposes a high waist, fluid and pleated model… to which Weekday follows in the footsteps. (Left: Jacquemus; right: Weekday on ASOS)

Back to Demna Gvasalia, this time at Balenciaga (the designer is at the head of two Houses at the same time, editor’s note). Continuing his quest for ugliness and questioning standards, he gives birth to the Triple S — one of the brand from Georges V Avenue’s biggest success. Of course, it was only a matter of time before Zara took over. (Left: Balenciaga; right: Zara)

Whether your type is Gucci or ASOS, look at the world with love. •
